Veteran Friendly Award

We are proud to announce that our home has achieved accreditation through the Veteran Friendly Framework (VFF). This nationwide initiative, supported by the Royal British Legion and the NHS, ensures that care homes provide the specialised support that members of the Armed Forces community deserve.
To achieve this, Maggie, Anna and Jess have taken clear and practical steps to recognise, support, and celebrate residents who have served in the Armed Forces. Our goal is to address specific needs—such as service-related physical health issues or mental health support—with expert knowledge and promote this in the wider GBH team.
Our team has been trained to understand the unique experiences and needs of veterans, ensuring military service is identified, acknowledged, and recorded as part of person centred care. We actively promote a culture of respect, remembrance, and inclusion, working closely with local veteran services and charities to provide additional support where needed.
Veterans living at George Brooker House are encouraged to share their service stories, take part in remembrance events, and remain connected to the wider veteran community. By embedding the VFF standards into everyday practice, we ensure veterans feel recognised, valued, and supported throughout their care journey.
We also support intergenerational activities, creating opportunities for veterans to share their stories and experiences with younger generations, helping to preserve history while fostering connection, understanding, and mutual respect.
Achieving this status is a promise to our current and future residents that their service will always be honoured, and their specific needs will always be met.
