Dementia Choir

At George Brooker House, we love to ensure that our residents are regularly given the support and opportunity to go out, breathe in the fresh air and maintain links with the community.
For several months now, some of our residents attend the "Dementia Choir" every fortnight. This is held at the Queens Theatre in Hornchurch.
Here is our Elsie, with her print out of one of their well-known songs. These songs are chosen to prompt memory and will come from an era that our residents can easily recall the words and relate too.
Here is May, enjoying a cup of tea whilst waiting for the next song to start. At the theatre everyone is seated together, this prompts conversation and helps to build friendships. They are given refreshments and light snacks and a true community activity takes place.
We then get a black taxi for the way home, this enables the residents to capture the scenery and reminisce about the area's they grew up and lived in.
This choir is embedded into our activity routine and is very special and important to us all.
