Working at George Brooker House
Our home is for 44 residents who are elderly, frail and mostly living with Dementia. We have a team of around 60 staff who are all committed to providing person centred care to our residents. The house is friendly, lively and feels like a second family to all of us.
Person Centred activities are essential to the overall wellbeing of our residents and we are looking for volunteers to work alongside our Dementia Coach. We want to be able to expand on the care that we provide and to do this we need people who are caring, empathetic and want to make a difference to others.
You maybe the person who puts a smile on a resident's face when they have not received a visit that day. You could be the one who fills a resident's heart with comfort by holding their hand whilst they are feeling frightened. You maybe the one who makes a resident laugh when they haven't laughed in a long time. You maybe the one that lifts a resident out of the loneliness that they feel.
Our Dementia Coach is working alongside our resident's families to provide genuine person centred care based on our resident's life history. We provide a range of activities tailored to their needs such as, trips out, music and movement, arts and crafts, reminiscence, watering the flowers, flower arranging and one to one activity for those who are less able.
What will you get out of this?
You will get plenty of job satisfaction knowing you are making a difference. It will feel rewarding and you will feel challenged. You will feel part of a team that are improving the lives of those we care for. It may alter your career ideas and think about a job in caring/nursing. It will provide you with a reference and experience on your CV.
What support will I get?
You will be working alongside and supervised by a trained and experienced member of staff. You will be given a full volunteering induction and any training and support needed to carry out your role. You will be reimbursed for any travel expenses.
